Every Reign Comes To An End
We are talking about Football club de Barcelona. First lets discuss what the club have established in this past decade.
Barcelona have won Four League titles in the past decade, two under Rijkaard and two under Guardiola, they have won two champions league apart from that they have won one Copa Del Rey title, four Super Copa Titles, One UEFA Super Cup and one World Club Cup title. They have completed a feat that no other club in the world has so far matched, Barcelona have won six titles in one Calendar year, which includes their 'treble'-which was the first one for any Spanish side. Barcelona team also boasts of its seven players who started in World Cup Final for La 'furia' Roja.
For the past two seasons Barca have been giving footballing lessons to every side they come up against. Irrespective of the competition they play in, they have delivered results abiding to their 'Total Football' philosophy. Barcelona have put on displays which have left all football followers in their awe. They have become the most feared side, winning against Barcelona is something extra-ordinary, something which you don't pull off so often. Victories against teams of the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Arsenal in a convincing fashion has demonstrated their prowess.
This season football followers all over the world are starting to feel?disappointed?because of recent Barca performances. Barcelona are a team which all football fans around the world follow irrespective of whether they support them or not. Considering their style of play and trophy cabinet for the past decade no one can keep their eyes of them. A poor start to the season was understandable as most of their players were involved in the World Cup, and as a result did not get proper rest, but the month of?February?has really put a dent in their reputation as a formidable side.
A draw against Sporting, then defeat at the Emirates, narrow win over Athletic Bilbao, a 3-0 victory over Mallorca and then two unconvincing 1-0 victories over Valencia and Zaragoza. Their next match is against Arsenal this mid-week which could prove to be the toughest match they will play this season. But, why do I feel?disappointed?by their present form
1. As a football neutral you get to learn a lot from their game.
2. They reintroduced and mastered the 'Total Football' philosophy into their game and really gave youngsters an example of how to put your head-up and play.
3.They have the best players in the world, just the fact that Messi, Xavi and Iniesta, finished in the top three of Ballon d'or this season and despite the fact that Sniejder had a terrific season didn't get enough votes, tells us what this team has established.
The poor form can be contributed to player fatigue as most of their player have been playing more than 40 games per season. The fact that Barca are still top of the league, in the final of Copa Del Rey and have a fair chance to qualify for Quarter-final in the champions league provides little consolation to their supporters, who expect their team to play the most attractive brand of football. All that can change in the coming few weeks if Barca somehow improve on their form and once again start playing the football which we all have started to expect from the club.
